Matryoshka

The work was born from the exhibition 'An Illustrator and a Designer Walk into a Bar,' held as part of Jerusalem's Illustration Week 2016. For the exhibition, designers were challenged to visually respond to a well-known and foundational piece of Israeli humor.

I chose Asi and Guri's mythological skit, 'The Old Woman Split in Two' and gave it a physical and design-based interpretation in a matryoshka doll. When it splits, an internal light fixture is revealed, projecting light, turning a beloved joke into a physical object with a life of its own.
